Core Features & Technology

  • SmartLoader Logic: This is the “brain” of the WA380-8. It constantly monitors the engine torque required for the current task. By automatically reducing engine torque when it’s not needed (such as when traveling with an empty bucket), it saves significant fuel without sacrificing the power needed for digging.

  • Large Capacity Torque Converter with Lock-up: Standard on the 2022 model, this feature provides a direct mechanical connection between the engine and transmission in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears. This allows for faster hill climbing, quicker acceleration, and up to 10% better fuel economy during load-and-carry cycles.

  • Auto-Dig Function: To assist operators of all skill levels, the machine can automatically initiate the bucket tilt and lift sequence when it senses it has entered a pile. This ensures consistent, full bucket loads every time and reduces tire slip.

  • Komatsu Closed-Center Load Sensing (CLSS) Hydraulics: Utilizing a variable displacement piston pump, the system delivers only the hydraulic flow required for the job. This prevents heat buildup and ensures that steering and loader functions remain responsive even at low engine RPMs.

  • Auto-Idle Shutdown: To minimize unnecessary engine hours and lower DEF consumption, the machine can be programmed to shut down the engine after a predetermined period of idling, helping maintain a higher resale value.

Operator Comfort & Maintenance

  • Air-Suspension, Heated Seat: The 2022 cab features a premium, high-back seat with a seat-mounted electronic pilot control lever (joystick). This ensures the controls stay perfectly aligned with the operator’s hand, even when traversing rough terrain.

  • Rear-View Monitoring System: A dedicated 7-inch monitor provides a clear, full-time view of the area behind the machine. The monitor is independent of the main gauge cluster, allowing the operator to keep eyes on both machine vitals and surroundings simultaneously.

  • Swing-Out, Reversible Cooling Fan: The hydraulically driven fan can be set to reverse automatically at timed intervals or manually via a switch in the cab. The entire cooling unit swings out for easy access to the radiator, oil cooler, and A/C condenser.

  • Gull-Wing Engine Doors: Large, gas-strut-assisted side doors provide full ground-level access to all daily service points, including oil filters, fuel filters, and the AdBlue (DEF) tank, which is located conveniently next to the fuel fill.

  • KOMTRAX Level 5 Telematics: This advanced system provides real-time data on fuel consumption, operator “Eco-guidance” (tips displayed on the cab monitor), and maintenance alerts. It also allows fleet managers to geofence the machine for security.
