Core Features & Technology

  • 3E Technology (Enhancement, Economy, Environment): This total-tuning system uses an advanced ITCS (Intelligent Total Control System) to coordinate engine and hydraulic output. It ensures the machine responds instantly to sudden load changes while minimizing wasted energy and fuel.

  • Independent Travel System: A standout Kobelco feature that dedicates one hydraulic pump specifically to travel and another to the attachment. This allows the operator to travel and lift/swing simultaneously without any drop in speed or power, which is critical for moving large pipes or heavy mats.

  • Regenerative Arm System: When the boom is lowered or the arm is retracted, the system redirects hydraulic fluid from the cylinders back to the tank via a specialized valve. This “regeneration” reduces the load on the pump, increasing cycle speeds and reducing fuel consumption.

  • Hino P11C-VC Engine: This 10.5L engine utilizes a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) and a Common Rail Fuel Injection system. It delivers high torque at low speeds and features an Automatic Engine Deceleration function that drops RPMs after 4 seconds of inactivity to save fuel.

  • Two Digging Modes: Operators can toggle between H-Mode (Heavy Duty) for maximum productivity and S-Mode (Standard) for a balance of power and fuel economy. The “One-Touch Power Boost” button on the joystick provides an instant 10% increase in digging force for 9 seconds when hitting tough spots.

Operator Comfort & Maintenance

  • ROPS-Compliant Big Cab: The cab was redesigned for the -9 series with increased glass area for better visibility. It is mounted on silicone-filled viscous mounts that significantly dampen the vibration and noise of the massive 50-ton machine during heavy digging.

  • Multi-Display Color Monitor: A large LCD screen acts as the hub for the machine. It displays the rear-view camera feed (standard), maintenance intervals, and fuel consumption data. It also allows the operator to select preset hydraulic flow and pressure for up to 10 different attachments.

  • Maintenance from the Ground: Kobelco designed the SK500LC-9 so that the majority of daily checks—including the engine oil level, fuel filters, and the air cleaner—can be accessed from ground level through large, wide-opening side panels.

  • Hydraulic-Driven Cooling Fan: The engine cooling fan is hydraulically driven rather than belt-driven. This allows the fan speed to vary based on engine temperature, reducing noise and power draw. It also features a “Reverse Mode” to blow out dust from the radiator.

  • Double-Element Air Cleaner: To protect the engine in high-dust environments (like quarries), the machine comes standard with a high-capacity double-element air filter with an internal “safety” element, ensuring clean air intake even if the primary filter is compromised.
