Core Features & Technology

  • Performance Series Buckets: These buckets feature a profile that allows for faster loading and better material retention. The design results in up to 10% higher fill factors compared to legacy buckets, significantly improving productivity and fuel efficiency.

  • Optimized Z-bar Linkage: Caterpillar’s patented linkage combines the digging power of a traditional Z-bar with the parallel lift capabilities of a tool carrier. This ensures the load remains level throughout the entire lift cycle, which is crucial for pallet handling.

  • Intelligent Power Management: The system actively monitors operator inputs and power availability to keep the machine running at peak efficiency. It features a Power-by-Range logic that increases power in Range 4 to maintain speed on grades.

  • Hydrostatic Transmission: The 938M uses a high-efficiency powertrain that allows for independent control of ground speed and engine speed. This enables “creeping” while maintaining high hydraulic flow for attachments.

  • Cat C7.1 ACERT Engine: This 188 hp engine meets Tier 4 Final standards using a “fit and forget” SCR process. It is designed to deliver maximum torque at lower RPMs, reducing engine wear and lowering fuel consumption by up to 5% over the K-Series.

Operator Comfort & Maintenance

  • Deluxe Cab Environment: The cab features a seat-mounted, low-effort joystick for all hydraulic functions. It is equipped with a large, automotive-style windshield and redesigned mirrors to provide industry-leading visibility to the bucket corners and rear of the machine.

  • Programmable In-Cab Controls: Operators can adjust the “aggressiveness” of the transmission and hydraulic response via the secondary display. This includes setting Automatic Lift and Tilt Kick-outs, which stop the bucket at pre-set heights to speed up repetitive loading cycles.

  • High Lift Advantage: The specialized High Lift linkage adds approximately 508 mm (20 inches) of additional hinge pin height over the standard model. This allows the loader to clear 14-foot trailers and large mixers with ease.

  • E-Z Level Maintenance: Ground-level access to all major daily service points (oil, fuel, and coolant) minimizes downtime. The cooling package features a wide-fin fold-out radiator and an optional automatic reversing fan for high-debris environments.

  • Ride Control System: This optional feature acts as a shock absorber for the lift arms. It dampens the “pitching” motion of the machine when traveling over rough terrain with a full load, improving material retention and operator comfort.
