Core Features & Technology

  • Cat Grade with 2D (Standard): This machine is essentially a “smart” excavator. It comes standard with a 2D grading system that provides real-time guidance on depth, slope, and distance to grade. It helps operators reach target grade up to 45% faster than traditional grading methods.

  • Cat Payload: A built-in scale system that provides on-the-go weighing. This prevents under-loading or over-loading of trucks, providing real-time estimates of your bucket’s payload to maximize hauling efficiency without the “guesswork.”

  • Grade Assist & Bucket Assist: When activated, these features automatically control the boom and bucket movements. The operator only has to control the stick speed, and the machine maintains the grade perfectly, preventing the bucket from “diving” or cutting too deep.

  • E-Fence Technology: A safety powerhouse that allows the operator to set “virtual boundaries.” You can cap the ceiling height (for working under power lines), floor depth (to avoid pipes), or swing radius (to stay out of traffic lanes). The machine will physically stop itself before hitting these limits.

  • Efficient Electro-Hydraulics: The 320 eliminated the pilot lines (small hydraulic hoses) in the cab, replacing them with electronic joysticks. This reduces pressure loss, increases fuel efficiency by up to 20%, and allows the operator to customize joystick response and “feel” through the monitor.

Operator Comfort & Maintenance

  • Touchscreen & Jog Dial: The 2021 model features a high-resolution 10-inch touchscreen monitor. It works like a smartphone, allowing you to create “Operator IDs” that save your specific seat, hydraulic, and radio preferences.

  • Advanced Viscous Cab Mounts: To combat the fatigue of a 10-hour shift, Cat redesigned the cab mounts to reduce vibration by up to 50% compared to the previous F-Series models.

  • Extended Maintenance Intervals: Cat synchronized the service schedule so you spend less time in the shop. The hydraulic return filter lasts 3,000 hours (a 50% increase), and the fuel filters are synchronized at 1,000-hour intervals.

  • Keyless Push-to-Start: Standard on the 2021 series, using Bluetooth keys or a passcode. This adds a layer of security and makes it much harder for unauthorized users to operate the machine.

  • Ground-Level Service: 100% of daily maintenance points—including the engine oil dipstick, fuel-water separator, and cooling system—are accessible from the ground, eliminating the need to climb onto the slippery upper deck in the morning.
