  • Isuzu 6BG1 Industrial Engine: The heart of the FD70-9 is a 6.5L inline-6 diesel engine. Renowned for its longevity, this non-electronic, naturally aspirated engine provides massive low-end torque, essential for starting heavy loads on inclines without stalling.

  • Heavy-Duty Planetary Drive Axle: To handle the 7,000 kg (15,432 lbs) capacity, TCM utilized a planetary reduction gear system in the drive hubs. This multiplies torque at the wheel while reducing stress on the transmission, a “must-have” for high-cycle timber or steel yard work.

  • Automatic Powershift Transmission: The 2007 model features a 2-speed forward/2-speed reverse powershift transmission. It utilizes a torque converter to provide smooth “inching” capabilities, allowing operators to approach delicate loads with precision despite the machine’s massive size.

  • Dual Inner-Wheel Design: Unlike smaller forklifts, the FD70-9 utilizes a dual-front-wheel configuration. This increases the footprint for better stability when the mast is fully extended and provides superior traction on unpaved or uneven surfaces.

  • High-Volume Hydraulic Cooling: Because 7-ton lifts generate significant heat, the FD70-9 is equipped with a large-capacity hydraulic oil cooler and a heavy-duty radiator, ensuring the mast and steering remain responsive even during double-shift operations in summer heat.


Operator Comfort & Maintenance

  • Fully Suspended Overhead Guard: To combat the vibration of the large 6-cylinder engine, the operator’s compartment is mounted on rubber vibration-damping blocks. This “floating” design significantly reduces operator fatigue during long shifts.

  • Synchronized Steering: The hydraulic steering system is designed to “reset” the steering knob to the same position after a turn, allowing the operator to know the exact wheel angle instinctively—a crucial safety feature in tight warehouses.

  • Cowl-Mounted Hydraulic Levers: In 2007, TCM prioritized ergonomics by placing the lift/tilt/side-shift levers on the dash cowl rather than the floor. This opens up the floorboard for easier “3-point” entry and exit.

  • Easy-Access “Butterfly” Hood: The engine cover is supported by gas-filled struts and opens wide to reveal the entire engine bay. The air filter and battery are positioned at the top for quick daily inspections without specialized tools.

  • Wide-View Mast Construction: TCM utilized nested rail channels and re-routed hydraulic hoses to the side of the cylinders, providing the operator with a much clearer line of sight to the forks when picking up heavy, wide loads.
